Profile Fields

Creating Profile Fields

BuddyPress allows you to create custom profile fields that are added to the registration page and shown on the users frontend profile. For more information on creating profile fields please refer to BuddyPress’s own documentation on this here.

Social Profile Fields

Users can already add links to their profile fields in the backend from Users > Your Profile. These social profile links will be displayed on the frontend in the BuddyPress profile header and Author Info box on posts. If you want users to add their social profile links from the frontend you can create your own fields as follows:

Step 1: Go to Users > Profile Fields and click the Add New Field button.

Step 2: Give the field one of these specific names so it is recognised as a social profile field:

  • Twitter
  • Facebook
  • Google+
  • Pinterest
  • YouTube
  • Vimeo
  • Flickr
  • LinkedIn
  • Instagram

Step 3: Set the Type dropdown to Textbox box and click Save.

Bio Field

Users can already add a bio in the backend from Users > Your Profile. This bio will be displayed on the frontend in the Author Info box on posts. If you want users to add their bio from the frontend you can create your own field as follows:

Step 1: Go to Users > Profile Fields and click the Add New Field button.

Step 2: Give the field one of these specific names so it is recognised as bio field:

  • Bio

Step 3: Set the Type dropdown to Multi-line Text Area box and click Save.
